Sabbath Snapshots

College, has intensified my love for the Sabbath. And I know that I'm not the only one here who now lives for the weekend, especially Saturday because it's the one day that is worry free! Last Sabbath I sat outside the entire afternoon and read and took pictures. It was amazing!

Southern Matrimony

I have found a wedding photographer! I know you were all concerned about that. This was an ad in The Accent (the school paper).

If I am to follow the ever-so-wise instruction that I received from the welcome and orientation meetings, I should be dating by October, engaged by next year, and married my senior year. As you can see from the ad, they cover all your bases for you. Like the ad says, "Welcome Back Southern! ADP is excited about the new experiences you will have at Southern. From engagements and weddings..." If I call now, I can save $50 on my next session!

There is nothing as welcoming as being assured that there is a good wedding photographer around here. What a load off my mind!

Today.

The sky right before and after sundown is amazing right now! Unfortunately I haven't had my camera with me when the lighting is perfect. This is a shot from my phone that shows a cloud over one of the buildings here on campus:

Design Class: Learning About Lines

"Don't try to be original, just try to be good."
-Paul Rand

That is my Design Principles 1 teacher believes in. This is going to be my most difficult class this year. We watched a short clip by Paul Rand last week that I really enjoyed.

Our first project is about lines. Here are the thumbnails that I created:

The final will be black construction paper on a white presentation board.

Risky Business

I must take a moment and thank Grandma Jean for sending me the book by Dr. Ben Carson called Take the Risk. It is a very good book and I highly recommend it to anyone.

Yesterday, while I was reading my homework for Computer Concepts class, I found a perfect example of how Americans have become obsessive-compulsive about making their lives as risk-free as possible. In this section of my computer class, we are learning the basics of computers. This next section caught my attention:

What's at risk if my computer is stolen?

The text continues to explain that the computer itself is not of great value but the data is what's important. If your computer is stolen, "the criminal... can assume your identity, run up debts, get into legal difficulties, ruin your credit rating, and cause you no end of trouble..."

That's not a pleasant thought!

How can I protect my computer data from theft?

"To thwart a thief who breaks into your home or dorm room, anchor your computer to your desk with a specially designed lock you can buy at most electronics stores."

A necessity indeed...?
