Blustery Day

Kristine Barker, Rebecca, Josh and I decided to have fun taking pictures Sabbath afternoon. It was supposed to rain but it didn't. We had a lot of fun even though it was a bit chilly. The best part is that I got to use Kristine's camera which is a Nikon D90. It is so nice!! Here are a few of my favorite shots:

Kristine took these of Rebecca and Josh (two directly above)

Kristine took these of me also!

Now, when you take pictures on railroad tracks, it's always good to remember what exactly they are used for. We did remember. And thankfully, did see it coming... After the train passed, I tried out the "dramatic" look but with me, it always turns out to look like I'm extremely worried about something. But I didn't need to worry. We saw the train as soon as it came around the corner that you can see in the picture there... (haha)

February Flashback

It's about time.
I know.
I apologize for the delay:

2/11/09

What is more fun than successfully pulling off a surprise party? That has to be one of the greatest joys in life, a true high. When you pull something off that is totally unexpected and wonderful for someone else. The week of Ryan's birthday, we debated about doing something, I mean, Ryan's popular so he'd for sure have a party thrown for him. But that day, after making a few phone calls, I was able to get a good group of people to meet at Marble Slab for ice cream. Thanks to Karalee's idea and Danika's boldness, we were able to hide behind the counter when Theo brought Ryan in.

I am happy to report that Ryan was thoroughly surprised. And everyone had a good time. Even the guy who was working there who also watched the door and told us when to jump up and start singing.

2/21/09 BCU Night

Black Christian Union Club Night. The drama team that I choose to be a part of was the main entertainment for BCU Night. The play that we did was called "The Great Controversy: An Unseen Evil". Except for a few technical difficulties (and a whole lot of stressful cramming beforehand) it went very well. The story is about the battle between good and evil over a high school boy's choice to either use his voice for God's glory or for his own glory. I played the part of the ditzy class president. It was a lot of fun to do! Afterward, I had several people comment on the fact that they didn't know I had it in me or that they were shocked to see this new side of me! I also heard that someone made the comment: "When she first went on stage, I thought she was a good actor, but then I began to wonder if she's really that ditzy!"... Not quite sure how to take that one...

Anne was my personal hairstylist and Karalee was my very own make-up artist! I was sooo pampered!!! And my hair felt like a hardhat from all the hairspray...
It was also fun this time because Christine was the stage manager! She is amazing and really worked hard in a VERY short amount of time to get the props together!

2/22/09 The Academy Awards

Oh! The glitz and glamor of the Oscars. A group of us went over to one of the music teacher's house and had an Oscar party complete with Oreos and Martinelli's. I loved the changes that they made to the program this year, especially the opening number as well as the tribute to musicals:

3/5-3/8/09 End of Spring Break

Spring break was amazing, but I can honestly say that I don't think I got enough sleep! We had so much fun doing so many things that...

Wednesday night, it snowed. This meant skiing! We spent the afternoon at Alta, where the ski rentals were $8 and the lift was free!! Thankfully, Christine was perfectly fine with staying on the green runs (I know, I know! But it had been 4 years since I'd been on skis!! GASP!) It was really fun!! And beautiful!

Friday, we went to the Olympic Oval and watched the Speed Skating World Cup Finals! It was so cool to be sitting in the stands and be surrounded by people speaking different languages! And, of coarse, I LOVED seeing the Olympic Oval!

While we were there, Shani Davis (USA) set a new world record for the men's 1500 meter race at 1:41:81!!! It was so much fun to see!!!

Sabbath did bring rest and a chance for me to pull out my polarizing filter and play around:

Well, that wraps up February! A last few tidbits that are kinda cool:

For one, my identity package was put up on the journalism website! You can see it by clicking here. (There is already another project up but you can still see past projects. And I am sad to announce that I did not make it up this time... My friends are rolling their eyes at my disappointment.)

The second is that I took a picture of a girl so Rebecca could draw her portrait for Drawing II. Rebecca did an amazing job:

Well, I guess that wraps up February!

Salt Lake Sledding

Today we finally made it to the snow! Unfortunately, it hasn't snowed for a week so it was mostly slush. We started out by visiting the Salt Lake.

These last few days, the wind has been blowing. And while we were out on the salt beach, the biggest gust of wind hit. I guess one of the best ways to describe it was that we got a natural exfoliation. I was so thankful that I had decided to grab my windbreaker and sunglasses from the car. I felt like Winnie the Pooh being swept away on that blustery day!

After having a wonderful lunch at a small sandwich shop in down town Salt Lake City, we headed up the mountain to go tubing at Gorgonzola. It was basically it was like a ski resort for tubing with rope-pulls to get you up to the top! We had a great time!

Now I can say I've been to the snow in Utah.

Spring Break So Far

Ah! Spring break! It came quickly this year. For those who don't know, I'm with Christine at her house in Salt Lake City! One of the things on my to-do list to do this week is bring you up to date with various things that have been happening with me... (wow, that really sounds conceited, doesn't it?)

Last Friday, after a mere 4 hours of sleep, Christine and I took the shuttle to the from Chattanooga to Nashville.

Our flight took us to Minneapolis/St. Paul where we had lunch with Kristine and Ryan, who had left for California the day before. Thanks to delayed flights, they were stuck overnight in Minneapolis. Christine and I made it to our destination several hours before Kristine and Ryan--even though they left a day before us...
Sabbath morning, we headed to church where we met another guy from SAU who is here on spring break. We were standing there, talking, when he turned to me and said "You were in that play the other weekend, weren't you?". Oh man. I guess I haven't written about that yet. You'll understand when I tell you about the part I played...

Saturday night, we went to see "Guys and Dolls" at a small theater that Christine used to volunteer at. The main actors were adults and all the supporting cast were still in high school. I loved it--but that's no surprise. We then stayed for Joker's Royale, an improv team. They were definitely entertaining. The MC announced that there would be audience participation for several of the games. I had just finished expressing my ext ream desire NOT to be chosen, when the MC told two of the actors on stage to pick two people from the audience. I began to slide down in my chair as I watched in a dreaded horror as the guy on stage moved over to our side. He turned his back. Whew! I was safe, but only for a split second because he turned on his heel, pointed his finger straight at me and demanded in a loud, booming voice, "You!". Christine busted up laughing and began apologizing as I reluctantly rose from my chair and made my way to the stage. Thankfully, I didn't have to do much, just move the guy's arms and legs like he was a giant action figure. The fact that I was picked was more fun then what I had to do.

Sunday, after having breakfast around 12:30 pm, we headed up to Park City, where, unfortunately, the snow seems to be lacking. It was in the mid 50's and very sunny. But it was still fun to walk around. This lack of fresh snow has changed our skiing plans. I don't like skiing in slush or ice.

Monday was a day of rest and creativity. We slept in, ate a late breakfast and created monsters while in our pjs. It was wonderful! That evening we went to a different theater--a bigger one--and watched "Phantom". It was wonderful! The set was beautiful, the actors had amazing voices, and they did a great job of using the stage which was in the middle, with the audience around it. I LOVED IT! Soooo good. After the play we finished our monsters:

Mine is the red one and his name is Hugo. Christine's is named Wad.

Today Christine and I went down to Garner Village, a group of pioneer houses that have been turned into gift shops. There was a photography studio there that had some unique ways of framing their portraits. (And I added this photographer to my list on the side if you want to check it out! Or just click here).

I also got my hair cut (or hair's cut if you want to be precise... Alison... haha). Now, it took me a bit to muster up the courage to go to someone other than Peter PLUS this was a school so they were still learning. Christine and I waited and finally a girl came out and called for Hollie. Three of us answered. It just so happened that two other girls who were in the waiting area were also named Hollie. Thankfully I stopped myself from blurting out "Oh yea? Well, how do you spell you spell it? Cause I'm different". Yea, I'm glad I didn't say that one... I sat down in the chair and tried to explain to the girl what I wanted. I then began to panic when she asked for help and advice on how to cut my hair. Thankfully, everything turned out alright:

We began to wrap-up our day with going watching "Confessions of a Shopaholic" at the movie theater just down the street (complete with free popcorn because it is Tuesday), followed by a home-viewing of "Madagascar 2: Escape to Africa ".

Hopefully before this week is over, I'll be able to give a quick summary of February since I have fallen a bit behind! I'm going to bed now... If you can't tell from that last picture, I'm tired.
